Ty Simpson made his preseason debut for the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday, and prompted some strong reactions from people who had a lot of thoughts about his NFL Draft selection.
Simpson very much looked the part in his Rams debut against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo. His very first pass was a gorgeous 23-yard completion, and he kept humming from there.

It did not take long for those who are high on Simpson to begin eagerly pointing out that perhaps the Rams did, in fact, know what they were doing in selecting him.

Not going to overreact to a preseason game, but so many were ready for Ty Simpson to fail.

Has come out today and absolutely balled out in the Rams offense. Has gotten more and more comfortable.
It's only the preseason, but this performance has been very encouraging.
One preseason game is, of course, not nearly enough to make any final determination on Simpson and his future. However, a lot of people did pile on the Rams for using the 13th overall pick on a developmental quarterback while the Rams are chasing a championship. Reactions were so swift that coach Sean McVay had to come out and clarify that he was not actually upset that the Rams made the selection.
Simpson’s final numbers were wildly impressive. He went 21/25 for 190 yards with two touchdowns in a 20-12 Rams victory.
