Tyler Eifert takes shot at Steelers’ DC over embarrassing flub
Tyler Eifert is on injured reserve and will not play again for the Cincinnati Bengals this year because of a broken ankle, but that apparently is not stopping the division rival Pittsburgh Steelers from game-planning to defend him on Sunday.
In an interview with Bob Labriola for this week’s “Coordinator’s Corner” that has since been removed, Pittsburgh defensive coordinator Keith Butler was asked for his thoughts on Eifert. He said the Steelers will have their hands full trying to cover the star tight end in the regular-season finale.
“I think he’s very good,” Butler said, as transcribed by Alex Kozora of Steelers Depot. “He’s up there. He can get deep on you. He does a good job of catching the ball downfield. So he’s going to be a problem for us to cover.”
It’s possible Butler simply misspoke and was thinking of CJ Uzomah, who caught four passes for 59 yards and a touchdown last week. Either way, Eifert chose not to let him off the hook.
Hey I am ahead of schedule! Glad the @steelers are still thinking about me tho https://t.co/6rokqU6MkW

People are already comparing Butler’s blunder to the cringeworthy 30 seconds of television Stephen A. Smith had earlier this month, but Smith is just an analyst. If a coach really didn’t know Eifert is on IR, the Steelers might have some problems on Sunday.
