Tyrann Mathieu gets $42 million contract from Chiefs
Tyrann Mathieu is striking it rich in free agency.
The safety formerly known as “The Honey Badger” is getting a 3-year deal from the Kansas City Chiefs that is said to be worth $42 million. The Houston Texans wanted to keep Mathieu and have offered him around $10 million per year, but he’s getting more from KC.
The Texans offered S Tyrann Mathieu a long-term deal in excess of $9.5 million per year to stay in Houston, per sources.

Mathieu, 26, had 89 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 interceptions, 8 passes defended and a fumble recovery last season for Houston. He remains an excellent safety and playmaker, so this is a nice addition for KC’s defense.
