Vikings seemingly screwed by SkyCam wire in crucial moment vs. Browns

Several Minnesota Vikings fans are convinced their team got screwed by some faulty wiring during Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns.

The Vikings trailed the Browns 17-14 with about 10 minutes to play in their NFL London Games matchup at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England. Facing 4th-and-6 at Cleveland’s 33, Minnesota opted for a kick a 51-yard field goal to try to tie the game.

Vikings kicker Will Reichard’s kick went wide right, keeping his team down three. After the game, replays of Reichard’s kick had fans convinced that the ball had struck the SkyCam wire. The zoomed slow-motion replay of the kick showed the ball veering right when it initially appeared headed straight down the middle.

If the kick truly did hit the wire, it wouldn’t be the first time the NFL’s SkyCam impacted a game.

The game’s officials and the replay booth did review the play, but failed to find any conclusive angles that proved the kick was indeed deflected. If the kick truly did hit the wire, it wouldn’t be the first time the NFL’s SkyCam impacted a game.

NFL kickers miss 51-yard field goals all the time. But Reichard’s early-season accuracy gave Vikings fans a reason to be dubious.

The Alabama product entered the game with a perfect 8-for-8 mark on his field goal attempts this season. He also set a Vikings franchise record with a 62-yard kick during Minnesota’s Week 3 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Vikings were able to shrug off the SkyCam wire shenanigans on Sunday to score the game-winning touchdown in the closing seconds of the game. Minnesota won 21-17, with the contest fittingly being capped off by a successful Reichard extra point kick. No wires were there to stop it.
