Von Miller thinks TJ Ward trade rumors are ‘fake news’

Von Miller

Von Miller thinks that the No Fly Zone is remaining fully intact.

Speaking with the media on Wednesday, the Denver Broncos linebacker responded to a report earlier this week by Nicki Jhabvala of The Denver Post that the team was shopping veteran safety TJ Ward.

“I thought it was fake news,” Miller said, per Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk. “I mean I didn’t think — it’s serious like that? It can’t be that serious. T.J.’s been a great player for us, but it’s the National Football League. You always get blindsided by stuff.

“T.J.’s been great for us so I don’t see any reason to [trade],” the former Super Bowl MVP continued. “Mr. [Elway and the guys upstairs, they push this organization in a great direction and I’m going to go continue to make championship moves for us. I don’t really — it has to be fake news; I really can’t believe in that too much.”

Ward, who is entering the final year of his contract, has been with the Broncos since 2014 and has been a crucial component of their elite defense that led the team to a Super Bowl 50 win and remains perhaps the top defensive unit in the NFL. But Denver heads into the 2017 season with stronger secondary depth, which could render the 30-year-old Ward expendable.

As for Miller, he has been doing a lot of wishful thinking lately, but it sounds like he’s betting the farm on Ward remaining with the team.
