Vontaze Burfict fined $25,000 for twisting ankles of Cam Newton, Greg Olsen
Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict has reportedly been fined $25,000 for intentionally twisting the ankles of Carolina Panthers players Cam Newton and Greg Olsen on Sunday.
Burfict was shown from multiple angles twisting the ankles of Newton and Olsen after they each scored touchdowns during Sunday’s game, which ended in a 37-37 tie. Olsen later called the stunt “clearly premeditated” and called for Burfict to be suspended.
The ankle-twisting was notable because it seeemed like Burfict was targeting previous injuries. Newton is coming off offseason ankle surgery and Olsen recently missed time in practice after twisting his ankle in Week 5. Luckily for Olsen, Burfict twisted the wrong ankle when he tackled him.
ESPN’s Ed Werder reports that Burfict will be summoned to the league office for his next infraction. Expect officials to watch him closely going forward.
