Report: ‘Zero’ chance Bill Belichick leaves Patriots in 2018

Bill Belichick

Bill Belichick may be dealing with more in-house issues this season than in years past, but that does not mean the head coach is planning to leave the New England Patriots in the near future.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported over the weekend that there is a “zero-point-zero percent chance” Belichick is coaching his final season with the Patriots. While the exact terms of Belichick’s contract are unknown, sources told Florio that the deal has multiple years remaining on it and pays the coach around $12.5 million annually. For comparison, the 10-year, $100 million contract Jon Gruden is reportedly signing with the Oakland Raiders is believed to be one of the richest deals in NFL history.

Belichick has built a dynasty in New England over the past 18 years. Even if he is having some problems with Tom Brady’s personal trainer and would have preferred to keep Jimmy Garoppolo, handling situations like those is part of his job. Belichick has complete control over player personnel with the Patriots and has seemingly has a great relationship with team owner Robert Kraft.

ESPN’s bombshell piece from earlier in the week indicated there is a belief in Foxboro that this could be Belichick’s last year coaching Brady, but even the writer of that story seems to have backtracked a bit.
