Paul Azinger calls Tiger Woods a ‘middle-of-the-pack hack’ at British Open

Tiger Woods sick

Just like he did at the U.S. Open, Tiger Woods may have managed to play his way out of contention in the first round of the British Open on Thursday. And golf analyst Paul Azinger let him have it.

After Woods posted a 4-over 40 on the front nine, Azinger referred to him as a “hack.”

“It’s hard to watch the greatest player of this generation be a middle-of-the-pack hack,” he said, per Luke Kerr-Dineen of USA Today. “Here’s a stat for you: Tiger Woods is 21 over par for his last 45 holes at major championships. You almost want to say, ‘Who are you and what have you done to Tiger Woods?’”

The assessment wasn’t far off, as Tiger later badly chunked a very routine chip shot.

Azinger has a history of criticizing Woods, most notably when he blasted him for kicking a club during the Masters a few years back.

Tiger showed some signs that he might be putting things together when he shot 7-under for the tournament at The Greenbrier Classic two weeks ago, but he looked completely lost once again in the first round at St. Andrews. You have to wonder if all the gossip rumors have taken a toll on the 14-time major champion.
