The Carolina Hurricanes could not have gotten off to a worse start in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Boston Bruins, and their captain tried his best to put that into perspective after the team’s blowout loss on Sunday.
After the Hurricanes fell 6-2 at TD Garden, captain Justin Williams spoke with the media about how they need to regroup and find a way to get back on track. Or, as he describes it, get the taste of that “poop sandwich” out of their mouths.
Justin Williams:
"Sometimes you’ve got to eat a poop sandwich. It doesn’t taste good, and you have to chew on it for a little bit, and we’ll have to do it for a couple days and get the taste out of our mouths next game.”

Carolina looked evenly matched against Boston for two periods in Game 1, but they were dominated in the third period of that game and for all three periods in Game 2 Sunday. Williams was actually part of the problem, as he took a dumb penalty when he let Brad Marchand get under his skin.
With the series returning to Raleigh on Tuesday, the Hurricanes desperately need to protect their home ice. If they eat another poop sandwich, their season will be all but over.
