Marc-Andre Fleury made incredible shootout save on Daniel Alfredsson (Video)

The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Detroit Red Wings in a shootout on Wednesday night thanks to an incredible save from Marc-Andre Fleury and a bizarre goal. Let’s talk about that save first.

After the Penguins missed their first attempt in the shootout, Fleury somehow got his glove down on the ice to stop a nifty backhand attempt from Daniel Alfredsson. It looked like Alfredsson had Fleury beat when the goaltender stuck his stick out, but Fleury was still able to react in time to protect the far post.

Following Fleury’s amazing save, Penguins forward Jussi Jokinen scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal. He needed a lot of luck. Red Wings goalie Jonas Gustavsson poked the puck off Jokinen’s stick only to watch it deflect over his glove and into the back of the net.

The Penguins have locked down the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference, so they weren’t really playing for much. Still, that’s about as good as it gets for a shootout in front of the home fans.
