Tom Wilson was assessed a minor penalty for interference after he took a late run at a Las Vegas Golden Knights player in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals on Monday, but the Washington Capitals forward will not face disciplinary action over the hit.
Kevin Allen of USA Today reports that the NHL will not hold a hearing with Wilson and no suspension will be issued.

Jonathan Marchessault, who was on the receiving end of the hit, said after Monday’s game that he believed the NHL would discipline Wilson for the hit. Here’s a video of the play:

While the hit itself was legal, it came well after Marchessault had gotten rid of the puck. The NHL has typically only handed down suspensions for head shots or plays that result in injuries, and Marchessault returned to Game 1 after clearing concussion protocol.
One of the reasons many believed Wilson should have been suspended is that this was not his first cheap shot of the postseason.
