Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy revealed this week that he was recently diagnosed with skin cancer, but he says he “beat it.”

Portnoy discussed his cancer diagnosis during Wednesday’s episode of the “BFFs” podcast, which he co-hosts with Brianna LaPaglia and Josh Richards. LaPaglia noticed that Portnoy had a scar on his neck and asked about it, to which Portnoy bluntly replied “yeah, cancer, I beat it though.”

“No, it’s not scary. I mean it is, but it’s not. I add it to my list — I’ve had a heart attack, cancer and stung by bees, beat it all,” Portnoy said sarcastically. “And it’s tough to complain. I lay in the sun. I’m starting to get on top of myself, so I went to the doctor and did a skin thing. They scrape it, and one of them came back as cancerous so it’s like, gotta take it out. I got, I don’t know, it’s like 10 or 12 stitches in there.”

Portnoy then shared a separate clip on X in which he told Barstool employee Rico Bosco that he had a procedure to remove skin cancer. He said the cancer “wasn’t the serious kind.”

“Why do you think I didn’t go to the Celtics game?” Portnoy asked.

Portnoy, 47 is from the Boston area and a huge fan of Boston sports teams. He has been spotted courtside at several big Celtics games in the past but was noticeably absent during the NBA Finals this year.

Fortunately, it sounds like Portnoy anticipates making a full recovery.
