Report: Jemele Hill leaving ‘SportsCenter,’ asked management for change

Jemele Hill

Jemele Hill has been a “SportsCenter” anchor for less than a year at ESPN, and it would appear that her time as co-host of the show alongside Michael Smith is already nearing its end.

Richard Deitsch of Sports Illustrated reports that Hill is expected to leave “SportsCenter” — or “SC6” as it was rebranded last year — in February. Hill will join the staff of the ESPN-owned venture The Undefeated, which intersects sports, race and culture. Deitsch was told by sources that Hill asked for the switch.

There will no doubt be some who believe Hill was pushed out of her role as co-host of the popular 6:00 p.m. “SC6” time slot. Back in September, Hill sparked a national controversy when she called Donald Trump a “white supremacist” and unloaded on the president in a series of tweets. Hill was suspended by ESPN over the remarks, and she later acknowledged that she deserved the suspension but did not back down from what she said.
