Stuart Scott ESPYs

Stuart Scott ESPYsLongtime ESPN anchor Stuart Scott delivered an incredibly moving speech at the 2014 ESPYs upon receiving the Jimmy V Perseverance Award. The speech was powerful enough to make most people cry.

Stu has been fighting cancer since 2007 and said in his speech that he was in the hospital as of Friday following four surgeries in seven days. He had liver complications and kidney failure. He wasn’t even sure he would be able to make it to LA Wednesday to receive his award. But he did, making his speech all that more awesome.

Scott’s main message came in these powerful words: “You beat cancer by HOW you live, WHY you live, and in the manner in WHICH you live.”

He stressed the importance of having people around you who support you and care enough to help you beat cancer. He talked about how having a positive and determined attitude helps him win the fight. He also gave a lot of love to his daughters — Taelor and Sydni — describing them as his “heartbeat” and the reason he fights to live. His daughter Sydni was in attendance and teared up while watching her father’s video and speech.

To close out the speech, Stu called his daughter up to the stage for a hug.

The video shows the prepackaged piece on Scott as well as his speech. To go straight to his speech, jump to the 6:45 mark.
