Anderson Silva, Jon Jones not interested in fighting each other

Anderson Silva vs. Jon Jones has become MMA’s version of Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather, and much like Pacquiao-Mayweather, this fantasy fight is unlikely to happen.

After Silva took it to Chael Sonnen last weekend, the media began asking Spider if he had interest in facing current UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones. Silva’s English isn’t that good, but he understood what was being asked and immediately began shaking his head like a young child being asked if he wants to watch a horror movie before bed.

“Nope,” was Silva’s simple response.

Jones expressed similar feelings. He’s scheduled to face Dan Henderson in September and doesn’t envision a matchup with Silva after that.

“First of all, I will never go down in weight,” Jones told The LA Times’ Lance Pugmire. “Second, I have no interest in fighting Anderson Silva. He’s a guy I really look up to.”

Silva is comfortable at 185 and has no interest in moving up. Jones has no interest in moving down, and if he beats Hendo, he should be concentrating on moving up to heavyweight so he can face some real challenges in the octagon.

Fans shouldn’t worry too much; a new superfight will come along that will captivate everyone. After all, it wasn’t long ago when GSP-Anderson Silva was the dream fight, and look at how that turned out.

In a separate issue, Jones expressed similar feelings and said he and Silva have too much to lose.
