Chael Sonnen is probably as good of a smack talker and troll as he is an MMA fighter, if not better. And that’s saying a lot considering Sonnen was one of the best middleweights in the world.
In what may have been one of his better troll jobs in recent memory, some are speculating that Sonnen hinted at Jon Jones’ cocaine problem prior to their fight in 2013.
You may recall that during the weigh-in prior to the light heavyweight fight between the two at UFC 159 in April, 2013, Sonnen was seen drinking a can of Coca-Cola. Coca-Cola got its name because the beverage used to contain small amounts of cocaine. Though the cocaine is extracted during the manufacturing process, the name of the drink remains the same.
Many people probably overlooked Chael’s choice of drink at the time, but it means a lot more now that we know about Jones’ positive cocaine test and drug problem that has led him to enter a treatment program.
Recall that few people were surprised by Jones’ positive test, as he supposedly has a reputation among insiders for being a partier.
However, some others are throwing cold water on the theory. Some have pointed out that Sonnen drank coke after other weigh-ins, such as this one for his fight with Shogun:
