Israel Adesanya had a crazy case of mistaken identity with rideshare driver

Israel Adesanya is not actually a white female rapper, as one rideshare driver apparently thought this week.

The two-time UFC middleweight champion Adesanya posted a hilarious video to social media on Friday filmed from the back of a rideshare. In the video, Adesanya was picked up by a driver who knew that Adesanya was somebody famous but couldn’t quite put his finger on it.

“Who did you think I was?” Adesanya asked the driver in the video.

“The famous Israel, UFC fighter,” replied the driver.

After Adesanya asked for the fighter’s name, the driver replied with “Iggy Azalea.”

Here is the priceless video.

For the record, Iggy Azalea is the Australian rapper best known in the sports world for her tumultuous relationship with former NBA swingman Nick Young. Meanwhile, Adesanya is from New Zealand, so that is why he referred to himself and Azalea in the caption as “two of Oceania’s biggest exports.”

To the driver’s credit, he was (sort of) on the right track there and just got a little tongue-tied and failed to stick the landing. Adesanya (24-5, 16 KOs) last fought in Feb. 2025, losing to Nassourdine Imavov by second-round TKO in a bout that resulted in some harsh comments being made about Adesanya. He is reportedly hoping to return to the octagon before the end of 2025 and may need to at this point in order to confirm that he is not, in fact, Iggy Azalea.
