Mallory Pugh makes history with goal at Olympics

Mallory Pugh

18-year-old Mallory Pugh made history at the Olympics on Tuesday when she scored a goal in the U.S.’s 2-2 tie with Colombia in group play. The teenager became the youngest Olympic goal scorer in team history with this goal that gave the U.S. a 2-1 lead:

Pugh is so young that she has not yet started college (she’s set to enroll at UCLA in 2017). The Colorado native has been on the national scene for quite some time as she played for the US U-20 and U-17 teams at various times before making her debut with the senior national team in January. She scored in that game too against Ireland.

Pugh was named the US Young Female Soccer Player of the Year and Gatorade National Girls Soccer Player of the Year in 2015.

This is just the beginning of what will surely become a promising career for the national team.
