Carli Lloyd sends USWNT to World Cup Finals with goal, assist (Video)
Carli Lloyd was the hero for the USWNT in a 2-0 semifinals win over Germany at the Women’s World Cup on Tuesday.
Lloyd scored on a penalty kick in the 69th minute and then assisted on Kelley O’Hara’s goal in the 84th minute to put the team up 2-0, which is all that was needed for the victory.
The win did not come without stress, however. Lots of stress.
The game was scoreless at the half and it looked like Germany might strike first when they had a penalty kick in the 59th minute. Celia Sasic missed wide left on her attempt, marking the first PK the Germans failed to convert in 13 tries at the Women’s World Cup.
Alex Morgan drew a penalty kick for the US in the 69th minute, and that was the one Lloyd converted to break the scoreless draw.
Lloyd described the feeling of winning and playing well as “a dream come true.”
