Megan Rapinoe had a profane response to the Washington Spirit thwarting her plan to kneel during the national anthem.
As a show of support for what Colin Kaepernick started by not standing for the national anthem during the NFL’s preseason, Rapinoe took a knee during her team’s NWSL game on Sunday. The Spirit didn’t give her the chance to repeat the action as they played the national anthem while the teams were in their locker rooms prior to the game.
After her Seattle Reign lost to the Spirit Wednesday, Rapinoe expressed her displeasure with the Spirt’s actions pregame.
“It’s f—ing unbelievable. Saddened by it,” Rapinoe said via the Washington Post’s Steven Goff.

The Spirit released a statement before the game, saying they would not let Rapinoe have the opportunity to hijack the national anthem.

Rapinoe isn’t the only athlete to join Kaepernick’s protest as two NFL players joined in last week and others are said to be considering joining the movement. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell chimed in this week with his thoughts on the matter.
