Morocco loses to Iran on own goal in stoppage time (Video)
The World Cup has just barely gotten underway, but it will be tough to find a more crushing defeat than the one Morocco had at the hands of Iran on Friday.
Two teams that were expected to have stout defenses lived up to their reputation for nearly an entire match. With the score tied 0-0 and the match looking like a sure draw several minutes into stoppage time, Morocco’s Aziz Bouhaddouz tried to safely head the ball out of bounds on an Iran corner kick. It ended up in the back of his own net.

With Spain and Portugal in their group, Morocco and Iran have their work cut out for them if they want to advance to the knockout rounds. A loss like that has to be devastating when you’re basically seconds away from a draw.
Between the own-goal header and the ending we saw in the Uruguay-Egypt match earlier on Friday, the 2018 World Cup is already off to an insane start.
