Some people in Nashville are NOT fans of Mike Milbury.
Milbury was providing some postgame analysis on NBC Sports following the Pittsburgh Penguins’ Stanley Cup win over the Nashville Predators on Sunday when he heard it from a loud heckler. The heckler berated Milbury, and some of his harsh words could be heard on live TV.
You can hear it in the video below, but beware that some curse words come through.
Why might Predators fans have some anger towards Milbury? Besides his overall controversial analysis, Milbury said PK Subban “had it coming” when Sidney Crosby bounced the defenseman’s head off the ice like a basketball.
Clearly Milbury had it coming when the Nashville fan cursed him out.
Mike Milbury is in a bit of hot water after making some comments during Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals between the San Jose Sharks and St. Louis Blues on Tuesday night.
The NBC Sports analyst was talking about an interference penalty the Blues’ Steve Ott received during the second period of the Sharks’ 4-0 win. In Milbury’s view, if a player is going to hit someone from behind and incur a penalty as Ott did, they may as well get their money’s worth in terms of how physical they get:
“This is so unsatisfying for me as a former coach. To watch your player with a slash that doesn’t really hurt him. If you’re going to slash him, crack or bone or something. If you’re going to hit him from behind, give him a slight concussion. Obviously I don’t mean that obviously too seriously,” Milbury said.
Milbury may claim he was just joking around with his comments and said “I don’t mean that too seriously,” but many will feel otherwise. Joking about giving someone a concussion is no laughing matter. Maybe we’ll see if Milbury starts getting called out for his comments the way Charles Barkley did when he said something similar.
NBC Sports NHL analyst Mike Milbury is known for his negative commentary, and he went after Jaromir Jagr during the first intermission of Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals on Saturday while the Boston Bruins were down 1-0 to the Chicago Blackhawks.
Jagr, who was acquired by the Bruins during the regular season, has been a postseason disappointment. Though he registered nine points in 11 regular-season games with the B’s, Jagr has failed to score a goal in 17 playoff games. He does have seven assists, three of which came during the Eastern Conference Finals sweep of the Pittsburgh Penguins. But the 41-year-old has been noticeably slow on the ice, which is something Milbury focused on in his analysis.
“He can’t skate in this series. They gotta get him off of this line. If he can do something when he gets the puck standing still, fine. But he can’t forecheck, he can’t participate with this line. He turned the puck over repeatedly. He can’t get anything going here. They can’t sustain anything with him on this line.
“Absolutely lazy in a Stanley Cup Finals … that to me is a guy that is too tired to play in this final. That is a guy that has to be replaced.”
People may not like Milbury’s confrontational style, but it’s hard to disagree with him. Fans have been waiting for Jagr to score in the playoffs and he just hasn’t done it. He is 41, was given the morning skate off, and you can tell he is slower. That doesn’t mean he’s useless, it just means he’s not “Jaromir Jagr” anymore.
