Serena Williams: My boobs made it hard to love my body

Serena Williams will be vying for her seventh Australian Open title when she takes on Angelique Kerber in Melbourne on Saturday. The US superstar is hoping for her 22nd major title, which would be incredible, but she acknowledges she’s had some challenges along the way.

Williams has openly talked about her body type for the past few years, saying that she’s dealt with a lot of critics because of her muscles and curves. It’s hard enough for Williams to accept having a much different body type from the norm, but it also makes it difficult to play tennis.

“When I was younger, it was hard seeing all these thin athletes when I had more muscular curves and was big-busted,” Williams was quoted as saying earlier this month in the Saturday Times. “Just try running with DDs that are bouncing seven inches up and down. It’s distracting, not to mention dangerous, because you can tear ligaments.”

Williams also said it has been a “struggle” for her to love her body. Those who saw her in this incredible dress would find that hard to believe.

But Serena Williams has overcome those issues, and her muscles have helped her become one of the most powerful tennis players. Her serve and ground strokes are simply much stronger than her competitors’ which is a big reason for her success. She also has done an excellent job of managing her workload and fitness; she has managed to remain on top of her game and outlast many of her contemporaries, who have retired.
