WrestleMania 38 preview: Night 2 at AT&T Stadium

WrestleMania 38

Saturday’s WrestleMania festivities have settled. Stone Cold Steve Austin and Cody Rhodes had huge reactions from the crowd, and now it’s on to Night 2. Like Saturday, Sunday’s event is stacked from top to bottom. The new tradition seems to be a two-night event going forward.

Without further ado, here is the preview for the second day of WrestleMania at AT&T Stadium.

Match #1: Queen Zelina and Carmella (c) vs. Sasha Banks and Naomi vs. Rhea Ripley and Liv Morgan vs. Natalya and Shayna Baszler – Fatal four-way tag team match for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship

WWE will look to open both WrestleMania nights with another women’s championship match, highlighting the depth of the women’s division. This match will feature four women’s tag teams. Queen Zelina and Carmella have been doing a great job as tag team champions. They are snarky and selfish, and the fans love to hate them. They truly play the roles of a true heel team. In this match, you have three athletic teams, each deserving a spot at the title. This should be an elimination match to truly crown a rightful champion. Instead, one pin fall or submission will get the job done and crown new champions. Sasha and Naomi are no strangers to each other, as they have teamed up before in the past. Rhea Ripley and Liv Morgan have found success as a team recently. Natalya and Shayna will serve as the veterans of the match and will look to decimate each team with their submission skills. Fatal four-way matches are unpredictable, and the fans will enjoy this strong opener.

Winners: (and new) Women’s tag team champions – Sasha Banks and Naomi (Team Boss Glow)

Match #2: Johnny Knoxville vs. Sami Zayn

This second celebrity match has been setup since January 2022. WWE did an amazing job promoting Johnny Knoxville’s movie “Jackass Forever.” WWE sent Sami Zayn to the movie premiere of “Jackass Forever.” The feud started to gain friction when Zayn and Knoxville bashed each other verbally over Twitter. The buildup to this match has been well executed over social media. Knoxville even put Zayn’s cell phone number all over the internet.

Zayn is considered the modern-day Mick Foley. He is a solid worker and knows how to promote a match with his promo skills and execution. Look out for a lot of shenanigans in this match and a lot of foreign objects; “anything goes” is the tag line for this match. Zayn is receiving attention no matter the outcome of this match.

Winner: Johnny Knoxville

Match #3: Pat McAfee vs. Austin Theory

This is the sleeper match of the night. Pat McAfee is a former NFL Pro Bowl punter who has some experience in the ring. Austin Theory is the next up-and-coming star, and a fan-favorite of Vince McMahon. If you haven’t seen McAfee compete in WWE’s developmental brand, NXT, you’ll be in for a treat. Both competitors will look to steal the show and come out on top. “The Pat McAfee Show” is one of the most popular sports shows today, so it is no secret why WWE is gifting McAfee a match at WrestleMania. With excellent cross-promotion from both WWE and McAfee, a lot of sports media attention will surround this match. Just like the previous match, this will elevates a new star in Theory.

Winner: Pat McAfee

Match #4: RK-Bro (Randy Orton and Riddle) (c) vs. The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) vs. Alpha Academy (Chad Gable and Otis) – Triple threat tag team match for the WWE Raw Tag Team Championship

This match will be a historic one for Randy Orton. Mr. RKO will go into WrestleMania Sunday as the only wrestler in history to walk in with every single WWE championship. A first-ballot hall of famer, Orton is now playing the role of veteran mentorship to former UFC competitor Matt Riddle. The team of RK-Bro has been a breath of fresh air for the tag-team division. At first, Orton was not liking the interactions with Riddle. But over time, Orton started to like his partner, and they have been doing great as a team. They will go against two former tag team champions, The Street Profits and Alpha Academy. Look for a nice tag team match at this spot of the card. The reign of the champs should continue for a few more months.

Winners: (AND still) WWE Raw Tag Team Champions- RK-Bro

Match #5: Edge vs. AJ Styles

The dream match of Edge vs AJ Styles will look to steal the show on Sunday. These two legends of the business will square off for the first time ever! Styles is one of the best wrestlers on the planet, and Edge is the ultimate opportunist. Ever since Edge returned to wrestling in 2020, he made it a mission to wrestle the very best competitors in today’s WWE. The clash of styles will be a sight to see as this will be a battle. This will be “Match of the Night” and quite frankly, possible match of the year candidate. This match can also open the PPV as WWE likes to start strong. Look out for a lot of action and false finishes in this match. A standing ovation at the end will be the best result of this matchup.

Winner: AJ Styles

Match #6: Bobby Lashley vs. Omos

WWE will most likely place this match in this co-main event position after the amazing match that AJ and Edge will have. Bobby Lashley, a former champion, will look to ease his way back as he will try to demolish the giant Omos. This match had very little buildup but will most likely showcase the strength of both competitors. This will be a quick match and I see Lashley winning so he can focus his attention on the WWE title later this year (perhaps a future rematch with a guy by the name of Brock Lesnar), who is headlining Wrestlemania Sunday. Only time will tell.

Winner: Bobby Lashley

Match #7 (Main Event) Brock Lesnar (WWE Champion) vs. Roman Reigns (Universal Champion) (with Paul Heyman) – WWE Championship and WWE Universal Championship Unification Match

This event would not be the most “stupendous” event without the elite athletes in the main event. Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns are the top stars in all of wrestling. On one side, you have “The Beast” Brock Lesnar, who is showing a more fun-loving side to himself lately. The fans are embracing the new Lesnar because he is smiling and talking more. Lesnar is the biggest draw in all of combat sports, and rightfully so.

In the other corner, you have the main attraction, the “Tribal Chief.” Reigns has solidified himself as the top draw in wrestling. Any time you put Roman’s name on the marquee, he sells out arenas.

This will be the third time Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar battle at Wrestlemania. This is by far the biggest and best matchup on the card as they are unifying both their titles. It seems that WWE will look to only have one main champion to showcase. Unifying both championships means the champion will be traveling more. Therefore, the logical pick in this matchup is Roman Reigns. This also sets up a possible mega-dream match with his cousin, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, at next year’s WrestleMania. The Tribal chief will look to continue his reign of dominance. They are promoting Roman Reigns as “Greatness on a different level.”

Winner: The Tribal Chief “Roman Reigns” – Undisputed WWE Champion
