Barry Bonds Gave Scholarship for Bryan Stow’s Children to Attend College

Barry Bonds was known as a surly, rude, and irritable player during his career. It was so bad that even his own teammates supposedly wanted him to get hit by pitches. But Bonds seems to have changed since he’s retired. We’ve heard many media members and people say that he’s mellowed out and become a nicer guy, and that seemed to be confirmed when we heard he went to visit Bryan Stow’s family in the hospital shortly after the beating.

Now we’re learning another detail that makes Bonds look even better.

In an interview with NBC LA, the lawyer representing the Stow family in their suit against the Dodgers says the family plans to give back donations if they win the suit. Attorney Thomas Girardi also revealed that the family plans on keeping one gift: a college scholarship donated by Barry Bonds for Stow’s children. Girardi told LBS he wasn’t sure how much the donation involved, but that he knows Bonds set up the scholarships for the children.

Stow is a single father of two children and Bonds already reportedly gave them a signed glove and bat in the hospital. Now he’s paying for them to attend college? He sure has changed, and he is making some great use of his time while he awaits a hearing in his perjury trial. Well done Barry, very well done.

I dislike bonds as much as the next. But who can’t respect this story.

Barry’s products aren’t selling, so he’t rebuilding his image.  If that weren’t true, Barry would have just done it … not have his mouthpiece announce it to the world.  If Barry was truly interested in anyone but himself he would have been doing charity events for decades.  Athletes get offers every day to help all sorts of worthy organizations or individuals … where was Barry then?

this is who Barry Bonds really is! would even bet that he is pissed off that it got out! nobody is perfect but Barry Bonds is one the best baseball players in history.

Barry Bonds was the best ball player of his generation and it’s not even close. Before and after drugs. I love it how people throw stones at players because of image. What has Barry Bonds done for people to hate or dislike him? Really, think about it, had Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth or others from the past that we all say great things about had played today, what would we be saying about them? In my opinion, it’s about what they do on the field and if what they do off the field hurts others then they should be persecuted, but not because people think he’s a jerk.

Bond’s “mouthpiece” didn’t announce it, Stow’s attorney did and it was in passing.  Pay attention before you spew your hatred.

What products are you talking about? Get a clue man

  • http://larrybrownsports.com Larry Brown

Yes, it was kept quiet. The attorney wanted people to know about it.

  • http://larrybrownsports.com Larry Brown

No, Bonds was not the best player in the game before drugs. You’re wrong about that. He didn’t become god on the field until the roids.

    Larry,

in your opinion, who was? Bonds set his own records before drugs. He is own club by himself and they was prior to the drugs. 500/500. He had the 400/400 club in 1997. Only 3 before him were able to do it.   Willie Mays, Bobby Bonds, Andre Dawson

  • http://larrybrownsports.com Larry Brown

Frank Thomas, Griffey, Juan Gon, A-Rod, Albert Belle, Bagwell, all were better hitters until Bonds went on roids. The question is how many of those guys were also using it.

  • Anonymous

Frank Thomas? Really. Not even in the same sentence. Juan Gonzalez was on roids in the minor leagues, A-Rod admitted to it. Belle, Same, Bagwell somehow went from huge to tiny as soon as the testing began.

Even if they were all on roids, Bonds prior to 1998 was way better than any of them. Not even close.  Also, Thomas was a 1st baseman DH. How many gold gloves did he win? Lastly bonds won 3 MVP’s and finished in the top 5 four other times prior to 1997.  The man was always in a league of his own.

Clearly we’re not going to agree here so there’s no point in continuing this discussion.

No amount of PR stunts can undo Bond’s surly image and dishonesty.  This is simply another window dressing, again for selfish gain in his upcoming trial.  The best thing Bond’s can do is confess and say sorry, then he is a MAN.  Otherwise, he’s just another cheater.  No respect for the guy at all, none!

  • http://larrybrownsports.com Larry Brown

You can’t force him to be generous. Nobody forced him to go to the hospital and do this. It was the lawyer who leaked the news

What part of “reading the stats” is failing you?  Larry, you’re a joke.

  • Anonymous

Really??  Wow.  Bonds was EASILY head and shoulders over everyone on that list, PRE-JUICE, except for perhaps Griffey.  A-Rod already admitted he was on the juice at the same time Bonds was, so can’t make that argument… but it still doesn’t matter; Bonds’ numbers DWARF A-Rods.  We’re not just talking about homeruns… those are ancillary.  We’re talking about OBP, BB, Stolen bases (Bonds has almost DOUBLE A-rod’s SB), BA, SLG, Gold Gloves, MVPs, Silver Sluggers…

I mean really dude… you’re actually trying to compare these scrubs stats to Bonds???

And yes, again, I’m talking pre-1998, when he allegedly started juicing.

Love him or hate him, he was one of the top 5 players of all time.  Throw out his post-juice stats?  Top 20 of all time.  Deal with it.

  • http://larrybrownsports.com Larry Brown

Get your garbage out of here. Beagamer says Frank Thomas isn’t in the same sentence. Thomas is a Hall of Famer and easily one of the best hitters of the 90s, no question. Like I said, a discussion with two unreasonable people like you is pointless.

Hater.  What did you do for those kids?  STFU

Try me, give me your argument.

Try me, give me your argument.

BTW, he’s not in the Hall Of Fame, either of them. And if you want to start throwing HOF numbers at me it could get ugly. One more thing, Frank Thomas wasn’t an angel either.

  • http://larrybrownsports.com Larry Brown

You already have your mind made up. I have much better things to do with my time … like write other posts

Show me, do you really give up that easy? Not even one number or stat. NOTHING?

  • Anonymous

Your opinions are great.  Thanks for that.  Now where are your actual, factual stats to back it up?  Oh, nowhere?

Say what you will, Barry won MVP’s before he came to the Giants.  It is what it is.  Check out:

from what I’v read Mr. Bonds was mostly rude and irritable to the media, his friends have said that he’s a real nice guy. I think his friends are right, the media got their little felling hurt because he didnt want to talk to them after games, ahhh. To me AT&T park will away THE HOUSE THAT BONDS BUILT.

  • http://larrybrownsports.com Larry Brown

Did you miss the story about his own teammates wanting him to get hit by a pitch?

I have heard that another baseball player said something about dealing with the media like Barry did
and Barry told him, “No, don’t do it the way I did” (paraphrasing).  He was influenced by the treatment
of his father, Bobby Bonds, by the media but found that they are so monolithic that you should just
go on with your craft and not get sucked into their game.  I wrote a song about Barry:
