Ben Revere hits first career home run, gets silent treatment (Video)

Ben Revere home run

Ben Revere home runBen Revere on Tuesday finally hit his first career home run, and his Phillies teammates marked the occasion by giving him the silent treatment.

Revere had gone 1,465 career at-bats without ever hitting a home run — this is his fifth season in the bigs — until he took Boone Logan deep in the 7th inning of a 6-2 loss to the Rockies. Revere did a trot like he hits 20 dingers per season and acted like it was no big deal. His teammates gave him the silent treatment like teams usually do when a player hits his first career home run or hits one to break a big drought, and he knew what was going on.

Per MLB.com, Revere’s home run drought marked the longest stretch to start a big league career since Frank Taveras went 1,594 at-bats from 1972-77. That’s kind of crazy.

“Definitely good getting that monkey off your back,” Revere said via MLB.com’s Erik Bacharach. “My game is mainly hit line drives and hit the ball on the ground. I get in a lot of trouble when I hit the ball in the air. We were hoping we would win the game, but it was a good feeling.”

You’re dang right it was a good feeling. At that point, it’s almost like you want to hit the home run just to prove that you can do it.
