Enrique Hernandez begs Zack Greinke on Twitter to stay with the Dodgers

Free agent ace Zack Greinke knows that the Dodgers will do everything in their power to convince him to remain in Los Angeles. But he probably wasn’t expecting the team’s 24-year-old shortstop to go on Twitter and do his best impression of Rihanna, begging the three-time All-Star to stay.

That’s exactly what happened on Saturday as Dodgers utility man Enrique Hernandez tweeted out what he dubbed his free agent recruiting pitch, busting out a Greinke jersey and puppy dog eyes in an attempt to win over the 32-year-old righty, despite a lack of monetary support.

How can Greinke possibly say no? Hernandez pulled out all the stops: capital letters, the “praying hands” emoji, first-name intimacy, flattery. Every other team in the league might as well just drop their pursuit now.

Greinke, who went 19-3 last season with a league-leading 1.66 ERA, has a good shot of taking home the NL Cy Young Award at month’s end and will obviously fetch a boatload of money on the open market. But with the Dodgers boasting a strong chance at re-signing him, a little adulation from his teammates couldn’t hurt, I suppose.

Hopefully it works out better than the last time the City of Los Angeles got down on its hands and knees to beg one of its marquee free agent players to stay.
