Prince Fielder was out at home; Dan Iassogna made the right call

Umpire Dan Iassogna deserves credit for making the correct call on a difficult play to judge at home plate during Game 2 of the World Series on Thursday.

Detroit Tigers first baseman Prince Fielder was trying to score from first on a double down the left field line by Delmon Young in the second inning. Left fielder Gregor Blanco threw in to home as Prince Fielder was rounding third, and the relay throw in to catcher Buster Posey barely beat Fielder.

Fielder slid into home, which slowed down his momentum. As his body was dragging through the dirt to the plate, Posey used a sweep tag to get him on the behind. Though Fielder was upset with the call, and manager Jim Leyland came out to ask Iassogna about it, there is little doubt the correct call was made.

The next two Detroit batters made outs — Jhonny Peralta popped up to the infield, and Avisail Garcia struck out — so the game remained scoreless. What a great relay by the Giants, and what a great call by Iassogna.

Gene LaMount does he even have an Idea what a third base coach looks like,my goodness first of all you don’t make first out at home and you get your lazy a** down the line so you can stay in front of the runner as long posible,he is standing at third base.pretty ugly

That was stupid on the scale of those errors 6 years ago. Even if you don’t stay at third, that was a very easy tag to avoid

Wow, somebody giving an umpire praise for the right call on an extremely difficult call. I wonder how many were at the keyboard ready to Tweet “ANOTHER TERRIBLE CALL — BASEBALL NEEDS REPLAY” and then had to eat those words.

Third base coach should be fired and never allowed to coach third base again. You Never send that runner home with no outs! If he can walk home without any chance whatsoever of a play at the plate you might consider sending him, But with no outs that was the stupidest call I’ve seen in a Long time! absolutely terrible call from the third base coach!!!
