Report: Red Sox pulled out of Aroldis Chapman talks due to domestic incident

Aroldis Chapman

The Boston Red Sox were considering a trade for Aroldis Chapman, but pulled out of talks after learning of his alleged domestic dispute, according to a report.

The Red Sox were weighing whether to pursue Chapman or Craig Kimbrel, according to Alex Speier of the Boston Globe, until Boston came across the domestic dispute report in their background check. The team promptly stopped their pursuit of Chapman and made Kimbrel the target, eventually acquiring him on November 14 for a package of prospects.

Chapman is accused of putting his hands around his girlfriend’s neck and firing multiple shots at a concrete wall in his garage. The Dodgers were poised to acquire him via trade, but it’s been put on hold in light of the report, and it seems unlikely that Chapman will be moved as long as Major League Baseball’s investigation is ongoing.
