Kobe Bryant: If Lakers were the Titanic, I’d go down with that s—

Kobe-Bryant

The Los Angeles Lakers are officially one of the worst teams in the NBA. Kobe Bryant is probably wasting the last two or three decent seasons of his career, and he seems to know it. But his loyalty has never wavered.

After the Lakers were blown out by the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday night, Kobe compared the team to the Titanic. And he’s not abandoning ship.

“If this was the Titanic, I’d go down with that s—,” he said, per Baxter Holmes of ESPNLosAngeles.com. “I’m not jumping off.”

The Lakers have held just five opponents to under 100 points this season in 21 games. As the Pelicans took a 20-point lead into the fourth quarter on Sunday, fans at the Staples Center booed the home team.

Nick Young felt the Lakers deserved it.

“They were well-deserved,” Young said. “We were playing like crap out there. We deserved it. Me, I just don’t like it. I don’t like having that feeling, just feeling like I ain’t doing nothing out there. I’m the life of the party, so I don’t like getting booed.

“The fans deserve better. We deserve better of ourselves. I don’t like this. I want to be a part of a good Lakers season.”

The Lakers haven’t been able to learn head coach Byron Scott’s defense, which Kobe attributes to a lack of thinking. He described the system as “simple,” yet LA has allowed 110.9 points per game — 30th in the NBA.

While some may point to the fact that the Lakers have 61 games remaining to turn things around, the eye test would tell you they have no chance of doing that.

All aboard the Titanic. Even Kobe can’t steer his way around this iceberg.
