Lakers reportedly considering offering Metta World Peace assistant coaching role

Metta World Peace Lakers

Metta World Peace may not make the Los Angeles Lakers in a playing capacity, but he just might become an assistant coach for the team.

According to Marc Stein and Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, World Peace, who is in camp with the Lakers, is facing a very difficult fight for the team’s last roster spot. If he doesn’t get it, though, the team would be interested in retaining him as an assistant coach, feeling that his experience and ability as a mentor to younger players is extremely valuable.

The 36-year-old’s preference is reportedly to continue his playing career, but it might remain to be seen what other opportunities he gets if the Lakers part ways with him.

World Peace has made it clear fairly recently that he still feels he can do a job in the NBA. If he does get cut, which looks increasingly likely, it sounds like he’ll have a decision to make.
