Magic Johnson pens heartfelt letter to Kobe Bryant

Magic-Johnson-Kobe-Bryant

Kobe Bryant will play in the final game of his incredible NBA career Wednesday night, and Magic Johnson took some time to reflect on 18-time All Star’s accomplishments in a heartfelt letter he published.

In a post on his website The Playbook entitled “Dear Kobe,” Johnson praised Bryant for everything he has done for the Los Angeles Lakers over the past 20 years.

“Every night you played, I couldn’t wait to watch knowing that I would witness an unbelievable shot or move that I had never seen on the court,” Magic wrote. “I marveled at the skills and loved the energy you brought to the game wearing that purple and gold uniform. You never disappointed the city, Laker fans, and basketball fans worldwide. All you cared about was winning games and championships and that’s why so many people love you.

“Very few people have changed the game of basketball but you will be recognized as one of them alongside my “Dream Team” teammates, Larry Bird and Michael Jordan.”

You can read the full letter here.

Kobe has been receiving gifts and tributes all season long — with the exception of one team — on his retirement tour. Few people have watched him play more than Johnson. Kobe and Magic are responsible for bringing a combined 10 NBA championships to the Lakers. The team owes much of its sustained success to the two of them.
