Mark Cuban: DeAndre Jordan told me he was ‘on a date’

DeAndre Jordan

Mark Cuban said on Thursday that he had not spoken to DeAndre Jordan in two days, and the last time they touched base was apparently over text message. On Friday morning, Cuban revealed that Jordan reached out to him via text message on Tuesday night.

But the big man told a lie.

Cuban explained what happened in a message to Dallas Mavericks fans on Cyber Dust. He said he dropped by Jordan’s house in Houston when he started having suspicions that Jordan was going to back out of his verbal agreement with the Mavs, but no one was there.

“There was no one home. So I texted him saying that I was there,” Cuban wrote, via TMZ Sports. “I know something is up. Let’s talk. He texted me that he was on a date.

“I told him to have fun. I wasn’t in a rush, that I was happy to come by there and say hi or (if) he wanted to make the date fun, take them to Dallas for a night out. He didn’t respond.”

If Jordan considers being held hostage by the Los Angeles Clippers until he signs a contract a date, then he was on a date the following night, too.

Jordan ultimately chose to re-sign with the Clippers, and the way he went about it has left a foul taste in the mouths of Mavericks fans. As it turns out, Jordan may not have wanted to sign with Dallas in the first place. There have been reports that his agent steered him in that direction.

By saying he stopped by Jordan’s house, Cuban is also refuting Chris Broussard’s report that the Mavs owner was driving around Dallas all night on Wednesday frantically trying to figure out where Jordan lives. Although, I think Cuban has already made it pretty clear how he feels about Broussard’s reporting.
