Markieff Morris on Twitter: ‘My future will not be in Phoenix’
Markieff Morris is letting it be known: he really does not want to play for the Phoenix Suns next season.
Weeks after reports leaked out that Morris wanted out of Phoenix in the wake of the trade of his twin brother Marcus to the Detroit Pistons, he took matters into his own hands and confirmed the rumors firsthand on his Twitter account Thursday. In a 140-character manifesto of sorts, Morris bluntly stated that his future does not lie in the Valley of the Sun.
My future will not be in Phoenix…. #thatisall #backtothegrind #FOE

While airing out his grievances against his employer on social media like this definitely comes across as petty and juvenile, at least there’s absolutely no uncertainty as to what Markieff’s endgame is. No snake in the grass emojis here.
Earlier this week though it was reported that the Suns have no intention of trading their malcontent forward. The team even tweeted Markieff a happy birthday wish on Wednesday like everything was peachy-keen.

However, that may just be a smokescreen intended to coax more lucrative and aggressive offers out of potential suitors. But with everybody and their dog aware that Markieff wants a trade, Phoenix’s bargaining position is about as stable as 2007 Britney Spears. And with these kind of childish shenanigans, what sane front office would want Markieff Morris within a 50-mile radius of their locker room?
For what its worth, Markieff was spotted hanging out with members of his brother’s former team, the Houston Rockets, earlier this week.

Nevertheless, this whole chronicle is becoming even uglier than the Ty Lawson-Denver Nuggets relationship, and that’s saying something. We’ll just have to wait and see if the two sides can mercifully put an end to this silly cold war.
Though if the Suns attach a second-round pick to Markieff’s contract, I’m sure they can get Sixers GM Sam Hinkie to take the bait.
