Matt Barnes: I am not lying about relationship with Rihanna

Matt Barnes and Rihanna are in a he-said/she-said situation regarding their alleged relationship, and Barnes swears he is telling the truth.

TMZ started all the rumors last week by reporting that Barnes and Rihanna have gone out on a few dates together. What was bizarre was a day or so later, they reported that Rihanna appeared to be in a relationship with race car driver Lewis Hamilton. Barnes later commented on the relationship.

“We’re friends and we’ll see where it goes from there,” Barnes said of the situation.

Barnes talking publicly about Rihanna led the singer to respond, and she completely shot him down via Instagram. She even went so far as to say she has never met the Grizzlies ballplayer.

Barnes says that is baloney.

“You just got to keep stuff to yourself obviously. But the way I’m putting it right now, I’m too grown to lie, you know what I mean?” Barnes said during an appearance on “The Jim Rome Show.” “It is what it is, I’m going to let this blow by like everything else blows by.”

He also was asked about Rihanna claiming on Instagram that she never even met him.

“I just smiled. I just smiled, that’s it,” Barnes said. “What can you do? At the end of the day we’re all grown-ups. Like I said I’m too grown to be lying about stuff but life is life. You live and you learn.”

What could possibly be going on here? Barnes says they have gone out and insists he is not lying. Rihanna downplayed things and went to the furthest possible extreme. We’re guessing that maybe she’s trying to make something happen with Hamilton, which is why she’s trying to deny anything is going on with Barnes, even though the two probably did get together a few times.

Unfortunately for Barnes, he may be stuck in the “friends zone.” JR Smith would probably tell him that’s actually a good thing.
