Nick Young deletes tweet after D’Angelo Russell apology

Nick Young sent and deleted a tweet not long after teammate D’Angelo Russell issued a public apology for recording a video of Young talking about cheating on fiancee Iggy Azalea.

Russell apparently recorded video of Young talking about being with other women and did not think it would ever become public, but the video leaked last week (watch here), causing trouble within the Lakers’ locker room. After a report got out making this a public story, Russell decided to apologize.

“I am sick,” Russell told The Vertical Wednesday. “I am sorry about recording the video. I can’t repeat myself enough on that: I am sorry I recorded that video. I feel horrible. I wish this never happened.”

Russell, the No. 2 overall pick in last year’s draft, says he has “no idea” how the video became public and says he and Young mess around a lot.

“I apologize for recording that video. I never intentionally wanted to hurt anyone. I never wanted what was said in there to get out. It was my fault that it did, but that was never intentional.

“The thing is, we record ourselves doing dumb stuff all the time,” Russell told The Vertical. “On the road or home, wherever. We go back and watch what we did and said and laugh at ourselves. I guess I just never thought that these pranks we pull on ourselves could have bigger consequences. That was a big lesson I learned.

“I’ve said to myself over and over: What could anyone possibly gain by intentionally doing something that could hurt someone else’s relationship? I never wanted to hurt anyone. I’m sorry for it.”

The LA Times’ Mike Bresnahan reported Wednesday that Young had accepted Russell’s apology.

D'Angelo Russell has apologized to Nick Young, I've been told, and Young has accepted it. I wondered if Young would hold a grudge. Guess not

However, a tweet sent by Young that he deleted seems to indicate he didn’t accept the apology yet.

Nick Young tweet

Given the deleted tweet, it’s no surprise that Young did not want to talk with the media about it.

Nick Young says he and D'Angelo Russell will deal with this in private. "We do need to sit down and talk about it." Took no questions.

Young reportedly is trying to salvage his relationship with Azalea. It’s no surprise then that he wouldn’t be ready to accept an apology yet. Even Russell said he wasn’t sure if Young would accept the apology and acknowledged he would understand if his teammate was not ready to yet.
