Warriors reportedly believe losing NBA Finals helps their Kevin Durant pursuit

The Golden State Warriors seem to be of the belief that every cloud has a silver lining, at least when it comes to losing the NBA Finals.

According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the Warriors believe that their NBA Finals loss actually improves their chances of landing Kevin Durant in free agency.

There is a belief that the Warriors’ chances were “enhanced significantly” by blowing the 3-1 lead. Apparently the loss has emboldened the team in making changes, and Durant may be paying attention.

Expect Golden State to be playing with a chip on their shoulders next season to regain their championship. Perhaps they feel that will appeal to Durant, who wants to win a title. The sense may be that Golden State would have had less to prove and fewer changes to make if they had closed out the Cavs.

The Warriors will get an early meeting with Durant. If he really is choosing his team based on basketball reasons, there wouldn’t be many better options than Golden State.
