Warriors to sign Andre Iguodala, trade Andris Biedrins, Richard Jefferson to Jazz

Andre IguodalaThe Golden State Warriors were busy on Friday making moves to shed some bad contracts that allowed them to agree to a deal with Andre Iguodala.

According to TNT’s David Aldridge, the Warriors agreed to trade Andris Biedrins and Richard Jefferson to the Utah Jazz. Another report from Marcus Thompson says Brandon Rush is part of the deal. Biedrins is owed $9 million this season, while Jefferson is scheduled to earn $11 million. The Warriors are also reportedly sending 2014 and 2017 first-round picks to Utah in the deal.

Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski says the Warriors have agreed to a four-year, $48 million deal with Andre Iguodala. Clearing out the contracts of Biedrins and Jefferson gave them the room to sign Iggy.

“It’s a great opportunity. I’m trying to win a championship,” Iguodala told Aldridge.

Iguodala also confirmed the move with a tweet:

Iguodala had a four-year, $52 million offer from the Sacramento Kings that the team took off the table earlier this week after he did not immediately commit to the deal. Wojnarowski also reports that the Denver Nuggets offered to match Sacramento’s offer to Iguodala, but he chose to sign with Golden State instead.

Adding Iguodala does not mean the Warriors should be discounted from the Dwight Howard sweepstakes. The Warriors still have attractive trade pieces like Andrew Bogut’s $14 million expiring contract, and youngsters Harrison Barnes and Klay Thompson, whom they could offer to the Lakers in a potential sign-and-trade for Howard.
