Report: Warriors targeting Anthony Davis longterm

Anthony Davis

The Golden State Warriors always seem to have a long-term plan, as well as a wishlist that rivals a spoiled child on Christmas. And after seeing the Dubs stunningly sign Kevin Durant a year and a half ago, we’ve learned not to doubt them, no matter how unrealistic their desires may seem.

So who’s next up on their list of desirable acquisitions? The Athletic’s Tim Kawakami believes the Warriors are targeting Anthony Davis longterm. It’s quite easy to see why the Warriors would want Davis.

Davis will be turning 25 in March. He is signed through the 2020-2021 season, but he can opt out of his contract after the 2019-2020 season. The thinking is that if the Pelicans, who have only enjoyed one winning season since drafting Davis, don’t show vast improvement, he might want to leave. He would still be young enough to be in his prime in a few seasons, so he would be highly desirable. The Warriors would probably also have a bunch of their star players still in place, so they would be a desirable team to join if you want to win.

Davis is versatile and awesome. There is no doubt about his talent. Maybe it’s not a huge stretch to think he could end up in Golden State down the road a few years. And if the Warriors are able to land him, then maybe their owner was right.
