Clemson TE Dwayne Allen Has More Money at Clemson Than He’s Had all Life (Video)

We typically don’t give college players too much grief when they misspeak and mention money. However, the comments made by junior tight end Dwayne Allen after Wednesday night’s disastrous loss in the Orange Bowl warrant our attention.

Answering questions about his future, Allen said one of the reasons he doesn’t need to go pro is because he’s financially comfortable at Clemson:

“One thing that’s not going to go into my decision is money. Being at Clemson, I have more money and more resources than I’ve ever had in my whole life.”

By more money, maybe he’s talking about scholarship money. Maybe he’s talking about meals paid for by the school. Or maybe he’s talking about under-the-table money from boosters. I don’t know what he meant, but I know that didn’t sound good. Most players are itching to turn pro and make real money, but not Allen, who is one of the top tight end prospects. Someone has to ‘splain me that one.

I wonder what Clemson will say considering how sensitive they are about their athletes and money.
