Kevin Sumlin blames ankle injury for Khalil Tate issues
Arizona Wildcats quarterback Khalil Tate is one of the best mobile quarterbacks in the country, but he’s been a disaster on Saturday.
Tate had just three carries for negative five yards on Saturday, and had thrown two interceptions midway through the third quarter of the Wildcats’ game against Houston. It was a far cry from the top-tier talent many expected, but coach Kevin Sumlin blamed an injury for limiting Tate’s effectiveness.
Kevin Sumlin told ABC that Khalil Tate is very limited by left ankle injury, which has completely changed game plan. If so, no sense playing him in 2nd half if this opening drive goes nowhere.

Given how badly Sumlin and his staff were being roasted on Twitter for that gameplan, the coach was obligated to offer an explanation. It won’t quiet the criticism, but it is at least something.
