Where the sons of five famous athletes signed to play college football
National Signing Day is some sort of holiday for the recruiting types. For the rest of us sports fans who don’t follow the day-to-day behaviors of whimsical teenagers, there’s this list.
SportsCenter showed a graphic on Wednesday of five sons of famous athletes who signed with schools on NSD. Here’s the list divided by position, player’s name, father, and school:
- – RB Kelvin Taylor — Fred Taylor — Florida
– ATH Ray Lewis III (pictured) — Ray Lewis — Miami
– CB Deion Sanders Jr. — Deion Sanders — SMU
– OG K.J. Malone — Karl Malone — LSU
– WR Corey Robinson — David Robinson — Notre Dame
Taylor and Lewis are the only ones from the group going to the same school their father attended. Deion Sanders went to Florida State; Karl Malone went to Louisiana Tech; and David Robinson was in the Naval Academy.
I really wanted to call this list the sons of five Hall of Famers, but Lewis isn’t in yet, and I’m not sure Fred Taylor will get in, though he does merit consideration. Taylor’s son, however, is the best prospect of the bunch. He is rated as the top running back by ESPN. Sanders is rated a two-star recruit by Rivals and ESPN, which is the lowest of the five. We previously featured Lewis’ son on LBS after he rushed for five touchdowns and nearly 400 yards in a 2011 game as a junior.
Another name you will recognize: Torii Hunter Jr. signed with Notre Dame.
