Marcus Freeman has compiled a 43-12 record in five seasons as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football coach, which includes a College Football Playoff national title game trip in the 2024 season.
After the 2025 season came to an end, Freeman’s name surfaced in NFL coaching rumors, but he strongly insisted he wanted to stay in South Bend. On Tuesday, just a month before the season, Freeman again doubled down with a stern message about his future.
“I’m all-in. I’ve been all-in,” Freeman said, via Pete Sampson of The Athletic. “I don’t see myself being the head coach or coaching anywhere else.”
One team that was linked to Freeman was the New York Giants, although they hired ex-Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh, and other NFL teams viewed Freeman as a top-tier candidate.
However, Notre Dame athletic director Pete Bevacqua stated that he was ready to match essentially any offer for Freeman, and that came during the time when his name was linked to the Penn State opening.
In March, Freeman said he has the “best job in America,” and added he has a “strong conviction” in South Bend.
Now, Freeman again insists he is content staying at Notre Dame, and the Fighting Irish should be College Football Playoff contenders once again entering the 2026 season.
