Adrian Peterson: I’m the LeBron James of the NFL (Video)

Adrian Peterson

Watch out Jamaal Charles. Adrian Peterson is coming for your title as the self-proclaimed LeBron James of the NFL.

Earlier this month, the Chiefs running back made headlines after declaring himself to be the King James incarnate of football.

On Saturday, the Vikings faced off against the Oakland Raiders in a preseason matchup and Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson was asked for a reaction to Charles’ audacious proclamation. To that, Purple Jesus replied that HE was in fact the LeBron James of the NFL.

Is this becoming the trend now? First we had this:

Then this:

Now it’s the “I’m LeBron James!!!” fad that is taking the universe by storm.

Granted, with six Pro Bowls, six All-Pro selections, two rushing titles, and an MVP award under his belt, Peterson probably has a much stronger argument than Charles does. But with 53-man rosters and an enormous reservoir of talent on both sides of the ball, it’s nearly impossible to definitively confer the predominance James has in the NBA on a single kingpin in football. Who’s to even say that the LeBron of the NFL is even a running back and not a J.J. Watt or an Aaron Rodgers or a Gronk?

Peterson’s boldness is a positive sign heading into a 2015 campaign where he’ll look to put his well-publicized off-the-field troubles behind him. But perhaps he should be striving to get LeBron to declare himself “The Adrian Peterson of the NBA” instead.
