Adrian Peterson looking to ‘start a new chapter’

Adrian Peterson is scheduled to meet with the NFL on Tuesday to discuss his potential reinstatement, and he has all but admitted that he is hoping to continue his career with a new team when the league lifts his suspension.

Prior to his meeting with Roger Goodell and company, Peterson told ESPN’s Josina Anderson that he is looking forward to a fresh start.

“I am anxious to start a new chapter and get on with the rest of my life,” Peterson said, adding that he is to share what he and his family have gone through during the past several months.

Of course, starting a “new chapter” could mean that Peterson is simply excited about moving past the child abuse allegations that have followed him and getting back to playing football. But we all know there is more to it than that.

Peterson does not want to play for the Minnesota Vikings anymore, which his agent has made perfectly clear. It seems like every day a new report comes out that links Peterson to the Dallas Cowboys, the latest of which you can read here.

If Peterson really wants out of Minnesota, he may have to agree to restructure his contract so teams are willing to give up more to trade for him. His current contract, which has about three years and roughly $45 million left on it, would reportedly be a deal-breaker for at least one interested team.

The Vikings have made it clear that they will not release Peterson. Believe it or not, the market for a 30-year-old running back who will count $12.75 million against the cap in 2015 may not be that hot. In all likelihood, Peterson will have to take less money if he wants to play elsewhere.
