Report: Browns have ‘serious concerns’ about Johnny Manziel
A new report says that while the Cleveland Browns aren’t taking any action against Johnny Manziel, the organization has “serious concerns” about his conduct.
Manziel was stopped by police on Monday following a dispute with his girlfriend, after which he admitted that he had been drinking. CBS’s Jason La Canfora, on The NFL Today, said that the Browns are concerned by this latest development.
“I’m told, there are serious concerns over the fact that he admitted he had been drinking earlier in the day, just a few months after getting out of rehab,” La Canfora reported Sunday, per Eye on Football. “But they have no plans for additional discipline for him right now.”
CBS analyst Bill Cowher went on to say that he’d ask for Manziel to be released were he coaching the Browns.
“I’ve watched Johnny Manziel now for a year and a half and I think he’s a backup quarterback at best,” Cowher said. “And he’s a distraction off the field.”
While the Browns don’t agree yet, as Manziel is active and backing up Josh McCown today, La Canfora’s reporting indicates that there are serious reservations within the organization about Manziel’s future. An alcohol-related incident so soon after his offseason rehab visit raises all sorts of red flags.
Manziel’s high school coach and mentor is also concerned about him following his recent incident.
