Cam Newton scrambles for first down on amazing play (GIF)
Cam Newton made a truly spectacular play in the third quarter of Monday night’s Carolina Panthers-New England Patriots game when he avoided about four tackles and scrambled for a first down.
The Panthers had a 3rd-and-7 situation at their 37, and the pocket quickly collapsed on Newton, who took the snap from the shotgun. First Rob Ninkovich got after him, but Cam escaped that. Then Ninkovich got up and tried to converge on Newton, but Cam got away from him again. Newton then was met by Chandler Jones, but deked him, then turned the corner and scrambled for a first down. It was spectacular and probably the best 14-yard run you’ll see.
“That might be the greatest play I’ve seen in a long time,” Jon Gruden said.
The best comparison to that play that we have seen this season is this one from Johnny Manziel against Alabama.
