Lakers’ NBA Cup court design gets meme treatment
The Los Angeles Lakers probably aren’t winning any design contests for their unique homecourt layout for the 2024 NBA Cup.
Tuesday marked the Lakers’ first NBA Cup home game this season against the Utah Jazz at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Calif. The court features a silhouette of the Los Angeles skyline depicted in different shades of bright yellow.

While the Lakers’ court is certainly eye-catching, not everyone was happy with it once the players took the court on Tuesday. Some felt like the colors used were blindingly bright.

This Lakers court is the worst court I’ve ever seen! I think I need to put on sunglasses 🤦♂️

Others felt like it reminded them of urine stains in a toilet bowl.

In all seriousness though… who the heck urinated all over the Lakers court tonight? pic.twitter.com/PEeTSBFvdD

This Lakers court is horrendous. It's like they got someone's dog to piss all over the entire thing and called it good. Ew

Not even Lakers head coach JJ Redick was a fan. Before Tuesday’s game, the first-year play-caller said that the bright yellow made the court look “worse.”
“The court is very bright,” Redick told reporters. “Crypto is always bright, but the yellow court makes it worse.”

The Lakers won its first NBA Cup game last week in a 120-115 road affair against the San Antonio Spurs. The defending NBA Cup champions are in a pretty tough group that also includes the Oklahoma City Thunder and Phoenix Suns.
Fans will have to see the Lakers’ yellow court at least one more time when the team hosts the Thunder later this month.
