Gabbert, 27, is coming off a 2016 campaign with the San Francisco 49ers where he made five starts and completed just 56.9 percent of his passes for 925 yards with five touchdowns and six interceptions. He ultimately lost the starting job to Colin Kaepernick in Week 6.
Age and injuries have made Carson Palmer a shaky option under center for the Cardinals, and veteran backup Drew Stanton isn’t all that inspiring either. But Gabbert, the former first-rounder, has been a model of cringeworthy ineptitude as a signal caller for many years now, so it’s hard to see this as anything more than a desperation depth play. Maybe the Arizona media will be a little bit more kind to him, however.
