After a forgettable 18 months, CJ Spiller’s time in New Orleans is now over.
According to a report by Rand Getlin of NFL Media on Tuesday, Spiller has been released by the Saints.
I'm told the #Saints have released RB CJ Spiller. He's fully healthy now. Wont be long before someone picks him up.

The Saints signed the ex-Pro Bowl running back to a four-year, $16 million deal in March 2015 but only managed to get 351 total yards and two touchdowns (both receiving) in 13 appearances out of him. Spiller was a healthy scratch in the team’s Week 1 loss to the Oakland Raiders and never really managed to carve out a meaningful role in Sean Payton’s offense.
In the right situation, Spiller, 29, can still function as a serviceable change-of-pace back, especially on passing downs. But losing foot speed and starting to look nothing like the guy who used to top 200 carries a season for the Buffalo Bills, Spiller won’t attract the same interest he did before, though he’ll probably still catch on somewhere.
